Priyanka Chopra's 'I Can't Make You Love Me' is the third in her
series of singles being released post 'In My City' and 'Exotic'. With
all the action going on in Priyanka's life; with her films and
endorsements, it is truly commendable to see her putting as much focus
and effort in her singing career, as she does in her acting. In today's
clustered entertainment era, being a "Jack of all trades" is actually a
huge requirement and opportunity. And of course we have seen how she
uses it to her best ability. 'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Priyanka is a
1991 cover of the same song, originally sung by Bonnie Raitt.
Singing a more contemporised version of the old song definitely
gives Priyanka the opportunity to reach out to the current music
listening generation and her fans. One may ask – why a cover? Why not an
original? Well, that as most will know is a creative call, but I
presume it was also to look at something which is simple and available
rather than doing something from scratch and risking it not working out.
The song has a predictable rhythm, which while it has its breaks, picks up in the right spots. And I mean this in a good way. I cannot help but tap my foot and bob my head while it plays in the background. Vocally, the song is simple and truly does not require a seasoned singer to deliver. Priyanka has however done justice to it and ensures that you can focus on the rhythm and melody rather than her.
